Why Moroni was not likely a lifelong military leader like his father?

Answer:

Moroni is the only prophet-writer of the post Christ era, who referred to the nonmember Lamanites as his brethren.  And he is the only person in the Book of Mormon who proclaims his love for them.  (See the Ether 12:38.)
